As the release date for Linkin Park's 'A Thousand Suns' inches closer, the band continues to debut more new songs to give their legion of fans a taste of the new album, with 'Blackout' and 'Waiting for the End' being the two latest cuts released. Yet Rabinowitsch was reluctant to talk about it with her granddaughter and for good reason: Helga, then 19, and her younger brother Axel left Germany on Nov. 9, 1938. Any diehard Liz Phair fans who aren't blown away by her newer, experimental material now have a huge incentive to buy her latest album, 'Funstyle.' According to Pitchfork, the new LP will also include her rare Girly Sound tapes, which launched her career in the early '90s.
The three cassettes were recorded by Phair in her parents house on a four-track machine and were passed around by many of her early fans. Sir Paul McCartney is to be honoured by the Kennedy Center for his contribution to American culture, it has been announced.
The award will be presented to the former Beatle at a state dinner on Dec. 4, while the following day there will be a gala event at the White House.
Other recipients of the award this year include Oprah Winfrey, country music's Merle Haggard, composer Jerry Herman and choreographer Bill T. Jones.

John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman has failed in his sixth attempt to gain parole on Tuesday (Sept. 7) and will now have to wait until August 2012 before he can re-apply.
John Lennon's widow Yoko Ono has consistently opposed his release, as she considers Chapman to be a threat to her and Lennon's two sons, Julian and Sean. The New York Daily News (via ABC) quoted her lawyer Peter Shukat as saying Ono was "very pleased" to hear of the decision to keep Chapman incarcerated.
